Application Period for Rural Historic Preservation Grant Program Opens September 1
“Preserving Frederick County's rural historic sites protects our heritage and sense of place,” said County Executive Jessica Fitzwater. “These grants provide support to property owners who are committed to safeguarding our history for future generations. I encourage all eligible residents to apply and take an active role in protecting our shared legacy.”
Grants will be awarded on a competitive basis. Properties must be in unincorporated areas of Frederick County and be either on the County Register of Historic Places or in a County designated Historic District and be in good standing with the County. If not yet designated, the Historic Preservation Commission must determine their eligibility before the grant application is submitted, and this determination letter must be included with the application.
Applicants may request up to $50,000. Grant funds can be used for expenses associated with exterior work to stabilize, rehabilitate, restore, or preserve historic buildings. Please note that grants will not be awarded for completed work, work that is already underway, new construction, landscaping, or projects that do not meet the U.S. Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Treatment of Historic Properties.
Informational workshops will be offered to help guide interested applicants through the program and application process. Attendance at only one workshop is required. Please register in advance at the website listed below. Registrants will receive an email prior to the virtual workshops with details including Microsoft Teams login information.

- September 23 at 5:30 pm - C. Burr Artz Library, Trust Conference Room
- October 5 at 7:00 pm - Virtual
