Russia, U.S. Hold Talks on Possibility of Another Prisoner Swap
The topic was reportedly on the agenda during Dmitriev’s visit to the United States from October 24 to 26, he told media in an interview published Tuesday.
“I met with some US officials and members of President Donald Trump’s team to discuss several humanitarian issues, such as possible prisoner exchanges being worked on by the American side,” Dmitriev said.
An unnamed American official confirmed the talks to media, but cautioned that despite Washington’s willingness, immediate outcomes from these negotiations are unlikely.
Sources cited by media indicated that Dmitriev specifically spoke with US Special Envoy Steven Whitcoff regarding prisoner exchanges, though no firm agreements were finalized.
This conversation follows a major swap on August 1, 2024, when Russia and Western nations conducted the largest prisoner exchange since the Cold War. Ten Russian nationals held abroad—including in the United States, Germany, Norway, Poland, and Slovenia—returned home, among them two children.
