Chairman Moran Leads Nomination Hearing for Chair of the Board of Veterans’ Appeals & Judges on the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) – chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs – yesterday led the committee in considering the nominations of the Honorable Maria C. Lopez to be Chair of the Board of Veterans’ Appeals and Robert R. Fleck, David M. Jones, Daniel F. Rendleman and James L. Quinn to be Judges on the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. 

“These institutions provide a critical avenue for accountability and due process for veterans and their family members nationwide,” said Sen. Moran. “The men and women whose nominations are under consideration each have extensive records of public service through serving in the military, justice system, Executive Branch and in the halls of the United States Senate. I look forward to learning more about how these nominees plan to continue that service in these roles, and, if confirmed, what they plan to achieve on behalf of veterans and their families.”

During the hearing, Sen. Moran also spoke about the increase of cases in the United States Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims and the importance of transparency in the appeals process to make certain that veterans, survivors, caregivers, family members and others do not have to deal with unnecessary delays or struggle to understand the status of their appeal.
