Joint training modernization: Lt. Gen. Pearson and Chief Smith’s visit to the 17th Training Wing
During the tour, Pearson and Smith met with leaders and cadre to discuss future training requirements and how the 17th TRW is preparing students for front-line operations.
Pearson and Smith gained firsthand insight into the day-to-day training operations and the physical constraints of Goodfellow's current infrastructure through a 10-year review briefing, 312th Training Squadron windshield tour, Joint All-Domain Expeditionary Forward Operations Readiness Generation Exercise (JADE FORGE) training grounds briefing and ISR training campus immersion. These insights provide critical context for Pearson and Smith to act as vital advocates for the 17th TRW at the highest level of military leadership, directly addressing challenges and future requirements for training modernization.
While visiting the ISR facilities, Pearson and Smith learned about the 17th Training Group’s plans and preparations to modernize intelligence training across its squadrons to produce more capable and ready ISR professionals for the Department of War. Through this modernization, instructors at Goodfellow leverage updated courses, training materials and instructional programs to ensure operational units receive fully prepared intelligence warfighters.
During a wing all-call, Pearson connected ISR cadre and permanent party at Goodfellow with the broader strategic goals of the Air Force and DoW. Pearson emphasized the importance of the training mission, answered questions using his perspective as a general officer and shared his leadership experiences throughout his ISR career.
“This is magic for me to come back to Goodfellow,” said Pearson. “For me, having the chance to share some words with you is awesome. As I think about opportunities like this to stand in front of so many of you, I feel a bit of an obligation to try to give back as best as I can and try to share some of the things I’ve learned and some of the perspectives.”
